Modelling the global transmission of COVID-19
Our founder Jillur Quddus worked at the Joint Biosecurity Centre (part of the Department of Health & Social Care) in collaboration with internationally-leading epidemiologists, mathematicians from CERN, artificial intelligence researchers from The Alan Turing Institute and national healthcare professionals in order to rapidly model the transmission of COVID-19 both in the UK and globally.
Jillur led a team that simulated and evaluated the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions, such as local lockdown measures, in order to inform and support government decision making. Jillur and his team rapidly designed, built, deployed and evaluated ground-breaking disease modelling techniques using the latest open source machine learning frameworks deployed to high-performance distributed computing environments. The data products and subsequent insights generated were directly consumed by leading epidemiologists at the UK Health Security Agency and by members of the UK's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).
